Having a dog is a responsibility. As a dog owner, you must know what human foods are okay for your pet. There are a lot of natural food treats that you can give to your dog. There are a lot of fruits and vegetables that your dog can eat. And one of them is the apple.
Apples are also a good source of antioxidants and dietary fibers. The dietary fibers also contribute to your dog’s gastrointestinal health as your dog will have a regular bowel movement. This is because of the increase of water and bulk in intestinal contents. According to Mayo Clinic, 4.4 grams of fiber is available in a 3” diameter of an apple.
Vitamin C and Vitamin A
These two vitamins are good for your dog and apples contain a lot of it. Vitamin C is beneficial for your canine busy for its muscles and bones. Healthy skin and a shiny coat? Vitamin A can help to that.

Apples can help to clean off some tartar buildup and food residue on its teeth by chewing apples. Their rough texture will grind against your paw friend’s teeth. A natural dog treat indeed!
Puppies can also get apples as treats. Frozen slices of apples are good for a teething puppy.
However, one must be aware of one part of apples that are dangerous not only to humans but also to our dogs. Always remember to cut off and remove the core and the seeds before giving an apple to your dog! Apple seeds have a cyanide compound which is poisonous and the core can also be a choking hazard.
Despite the benefits that apples have, they also contain sugar. They will be not good for dogs with diabetes so it is better to consult your veterinarian first for the proper amount of apples that you can give to your dog.
