There are researches conducted that proved about the benefits of CBD. And people have been using it now and sometimes is even used for dogs.
Bishop is a dog which was adopted last August from Davidson County Animal Control. The pup was one year old then and someone sent it to the shelter because the dog was running around the streets of Nashville.
Zuri Davis adopted Bishop and then enrolled it for basic training. Davis has seen a lot of progress and the training helped the dog about its behavior.
However, the real challenge happens whenever Davis leave Bishop alone in the apartment.
“When I come back, it always looks as though a tornado flew around the room. Bishop knocks down furniture and tears through books and papers. One time I returned to find that Bishop had managed to unlock the front door.”, Davis said.
Whenever Davis leave the apartment, he put Bishop in its nook with its toys, treats, and play some calming music. If Davis will leave for a longer time, he lets the dog roam inside.
“But each time I leave Bishop to roam free, I almost always hear clawing at the door and crying moments after I shut it.”, Davis stated.
It seems like Bishop has separation anxiety. And Davis wondered if CBD will help the dog. CBD is used as a therapy for two types of treatment for epilepsy in children and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
However, there have been researches conducted that shows that it can be used for treating anxiety too. Davis turned to Jason Amatucci of VA Hemp who was Bishop’s trainer regarding this.
“We have found that many pet owners that use CBD for their cats and dogs really love it and say it works for tackling problem behavior or just giving their pet a better sense of overall calm,”, said Amatucci.
The next step that Davis did was to look for CBD shops in Nashville and decided to use oil since t can be added in a treat and the dog’s food. He also chose the formulation that makes the oil tastes like bacon.
Davis started the experiment and put a drop of the oil on a hard treat and let Bishop sniffed it. But Bishop turned away.
Then next, he put food on Bishop’s bowl and put the treat in the middle. To Davis’ surprise, the dog ate all the food in its bowl, including the treat with CBD oil.
They went to the festival and then Davis observed the dog’s behavior. However, it seems like the oil didn’t kick in and doesn’t have much effect on Bishop.
The next day, Davis repeated the process and put a treat with a CBD oil in Bishop’s food. It is Sunday and it is the time in which Bishop will be allowed to roam the apartment while Davis is away and at the Church.
Closing the door, Davis did not hear any scratching at the door nor crying. What’s more surprising is when Davis came back, there are no big damages inside the apartment and it is just Bishop’s barrier being moved.
It also turned out that Bishop was peacefully relaxing at its crate. However, Davis had found out that CBD oil is not a miracle thing which makes dogs instantly good after taking it.
“Still, I’m open to using it again the next time I leave him home alone. After all, with the exception of the playpen and the beanbag, this was the first time Bishop didn’t completely destroy the apartment.”, Davis said.
