Kindness is universal. You can find it among people and among animals too.
One heartwarming story circulating on the Internet today is about a dog who saved a trapped bird on their porch. Imagine a big breed dog saving a small creature, amazing, right?
Jennifer Ahlberg adopted Gus who is a gentle dog that is always up for helping others. The dog is a Labrador-Pyrenees mix who loves playing outside with its brother.
When the weather is nice, their fur parents leave the door of their screened porch open. With this, the two dogs can go in and out of the house and play to the yard whenever they want.
However, since their door is open, this means that other animals can go in and out of the porch too. Most often, birds are attracted to the glass window’s reflection and fly inside.
“Over the years, we’ve had several birds get trapped on the porch. Gus is very skilled at the gentle catch and release!”, Jennifer said.
The cute pup knows by heart that these trapped birds are not toys nor food. They are animals that needed help and rescue.
Gus has a “soft mouth” which is one of the traits of its breed. With this, it can carry the bird with its mouth by not hurting and biting it.
According to Jennifer, she didn’t see the bird until she let Gus out the first time a bird was trapped into their porch. Gus grabbed the bird softly before she could stop the dog and went outside with it.
“I followed him out thinking I could get him to drop the bird and possibly save it. When he gently placed the bird on the ground and it flew away unharmed, I was stunned.”, Jennifer stated.
On a fortunate event, Gus mom had recorded this act of kindness and posted it on Youtube. In the video, you can see the dog wandering on the porch and finding a trapped bird that is trying to get out.
Seeing Gus, the bird got more scared as it was afraid that the dog will end its life. Lucky for the bird, Gus knows exactly what to do to save the poor little fellow.
“Since this has happened several times over the years, always with the same result, I now just let him out to rescue a bird rather than trying to catch it myself. Gus is much quicker and more gentle than I am.”, said Jennifer.
The moment Gus put the bird outside, it took flight, The bird also gave a little chirp as if thanking Gus.
