It is like a bad sign if we introduce a new person to our dog and it started behaving bad or barking loudly. This will stir up questions to yourself if the new person has a bad character especially if your dog is known as friendly.
Dogs have been known as a good judge of character. Others will not even date someone if their dog doesn’t like that person.
You might be wondering if you are being unfair and putting a lot of your trust to your dog. but don’t worry, studies have been conducted which shows that dogs can really detect someone with not a good character.
One of the studies conducted some tests using pointing gestures for dogs. Dogs know that if someone is pointing something at a direction, it must focus its attention there.
However, another factor is added in the test, which is the reliability of the person pointing. The objective of the test is to determine if a dog will have a behavioral change based on if they trust the person doing the pointing or not.
They did multiple tests in which there are two containers, one with a treat and one that is empty and the person will point at one of these containers. Thhaveesults has shown that the dog will stop obeying and would lose its trust to the person if the person keeps on pointing to the empty container.
As a conclusion of the study, the dog can change its behavior accordingly based on the reliability of the person.
Another study conducted has proven that a dog can detect if someone os being rude to another person.
In the study, the dog owner asked for the assistance of two researchers for opening the bar. One of these researchers would help on opening the jar while others would decline. The two researchers offered a treat after to the dog who is observing the scene.
The results showed that the dog refused to take the treat from the researcher who did not help and gladly took the treat from the researcher who assisted in opening the jar.
This means that a dog can tell if someone is not worth the trust and can avoid people who are being bad to its owner.
