Shelters are homes for animals who were rescued from danger or unfortunate events. Some people also surrender animals to these shelters when they can’t take care of them anymore.
Because of this, it is not surprising that shelters are sometimes overcrowded. Sometimes, the budget of the shelters is not enough to accommodate and take care of all these animals.
According to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), the animal shelters in the United States handle approximately 6 to 8 million each year and nearly 4 million of these are left in the shelters with no place to go.
Due to this overpopulation, shelters do euthanization on old animals and sick ones.
“Because of the high number of unwanted companion animals and the lack of good homes, sometimes the most humane thing that a shelter worker can do is give an animal a peaceful release from a world in which dogs and cats are often considered ‘surplus.'”, according to PETA.
There had been stories where a dog was saved and adopted before its scheduled euthanization. And the following story is one of them.
Kala and Keira are two dogs that are scheduled to be euthanized one Monday. They are shelter dogs of Angels Among Us Pet Rescue.
Before the said date of their euthanization, the shelter posted a photo of the two dogs. In the picture, it can be seen that Kala is hugging its best friend, Keira and the two were looking at the camera as if asking for help.
The post had a caption, “If no one saves us, someone will take her away from me.” which was shared thousand times.
With this, the two found an adopter and a furr-ever home just two hours after the picture was posted on the Facebook page of the shelter.
What is more heartwarming is the adopter adopted both Kala and Keira. This means that these two adorable dogs will be at each other’s side forever.
What if you saw a Facebook post similar to these dogs’ post? Will you also save the dogs and adopt them? Share us your thoughts!
