One thing that makes dogs special is their range of heightened senses. Their acute senses of smell and hearing make them a valuable companion for hunters, security personnel, and rescuers. This is one reason you will often hear stories of dogs tracking survivors trapped in damaged structures and finding missing people.
Dogs’ useful skills were proven once more when a Jack Russell found a newborn baby left among the bushes. His discovery had made him a local hero.
Not the usual walk in the park
Macho, the Jack Russell, was walking with his owner in a park. And as they treaded the pathway, Macho suddenly attempted to pull his owner to take him to the bushy section of the park.
Thankfully, the owner followed Macho’s lead. They found a whimpering baby left among the bushes. Hypothermia was already taking a toll on the baby who was just wrapped in a t-shirt.
When the medical team arrived, they said that the baby was lucky to have been found by Macho. Otherwise, she would have died. The medics even claimed that the baby, who was thought to be crying for hours, was already inching towards death.
According to local news outlets, the dog might receive an award for finding the abandoned baby.
The baby’s condition
When the baby was rushed to the hospital, the doctors said that she just arrived on time. Weighing just five pounds, the baby was not only diagnosed with hypothermia — she was also found out to be deprived of oxygen.
After five days, the hospital said that the baby was already getting better. The medical team taking care of the baby claimed that she would survive because she was a fighter.
As this was a case of child abandonment, the local police force already started their search for the mother. People insisted that this situation should not be tolerated and normalized.
