While browsing Facebook, Nick Abbott a post about a Labrador Retriever puppy named Emerson that was deaf and needed someone to adopt him. Nick knew that he should adopt the puppy. He was also born deaf.
Nick said that when he went to see Emerson, the puppy went right to him and sat at his feet. He stayed there as if he was already comfortable. He said that it seems like he didn’t choose the puppy but it was the other way around. He also felt like they were going to do well together and they would understand each other despite not being able to hear.
Emerson and the rest of his litter were rescued in Florida from a high-kill shelter. NFR Maine was behind the rescue. Emerson’s siblings were adopted quickly but Emerson still had to find the right adopter for him.
After being rescued, Emerson had Parvo and he needed medical attention. It was good that he was a strong puppy and made it through Parvo. If he didn’t, then he wouldn’t have had met Nick and had a great time with him.
Nick and Emerson didn’t seem to want to be away from each other. Richelle, Nick’s mother, said that Emerson is always right where Nick is. He always wants to touch Nick and would do everything to do that.
Nick taught Emerson the basic commands using sign language and Emerson didn’t disappoint. He quickly learned his lessons. He now knows how to stay, paw, sit, and down. This seems like the beginning and Emerson is a quick study. Nick is also excited to teach Emerson more commands.
The two love spending time together. You can really say that these two are the perfect match. Who would think that in this huge world, a deaf man and a deaf dog would find themselves together?
