Paul Heroux, mayor of Attleboro, Massachusetts, owns a Japanese wolf dog named Mura. They did everything together ever since she was taken in by the Mayor at 8 weeks. And she’s quite popular as well to the point that Mura was named as Attleboro’s First Dog.
However, just recently, Mayor Paul Heroux’s dog was diagnosed with blood cancer in its terminal stage. It was devastating news for Paul, but he had to help his dear dog fight for her life. And while he’s well aware that Mura’s not getting any younger at 11 years of age, he was determined to make Mura’s remaining days memorable and happy.
So, Paul planned for a cross-country road-trip to Vancouver Island in Canada with Mura, which was the latter’s hometown. The 8,500-mile journey would take at least two weeks – but there were planned stopovers, like Seattle, San Francisco, and Hollywood.
Only having the company of each other, the duo went on their way to complete their 8,500-mile journey. Not only that, Mura’s dad documented their trips and shared them on Facebook, garnering thousands of followers, likes and comments. It was an adventure for both, especially Mura, who obviously became fascinated with American bison and elk.
Just last month, the duo finally reached Victoria, British Columbia where Mura reconnected with her relatives and her breeder. It was indeed a memorable experience for both, but they were soon back in their home in Massachusetts a week after reaching Vancouver Island.
But since then, Heroux was receiving numerous gifts and messages from people from different countries, encouraging him to stay strong and appreciating him for what he has done for Mura. Mura may be terminally ill, but we know for sure that she’s loved and deserve to be loved.
